William Ronald Walker, 87, of Providence, NC, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family after 3 years of declining health on December 22, 2024.
Ronald was born on July 29, 1937, in Roxboro, NC, a son of the late Woodrow Walker and Elsie Walker. He graduated from Cobb High School in Pelham, NC. He retired at 62 from McLean Trucking company and then went on to work with the Caswell County Sheriffs Dept. where he was a sergeant for 10 years. He also worked at Caswell Pines Golf Course and Honda in Danville, VA until the age of 82. He was with the Caswell Brotherhood Lodge of Free Masons for 59 years. He served on the Caswell County Chamber of Commerce and was named Ruritan of the Year in 1991. He was a member of the Poquoson Tribe and volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the Providence Volunteer Fire Dept. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and served on many boards within the church. He was an active volunteer with the youth in the church. He supported his children in their sports activities by coaching and driving the bus. He was an avid golfer and a UNC Basketball and New York Yankees fan.
Ronald was married to Marie Walker on August 5, 1956, for 68 years, and who survives of the residence.
In addition to his wife, Ronald is survived by his Children, Gwen Whitley (Tony), Mark Walker, Greg Walker (Rhonda), two grandchildren, Jordan Whitley and Taylor Whitley Terhune (Dustin), brother, Kenneth Walker, many nieces and nephews, and a host of other family members and friends whom he loved.
In addition to his parents, Ronald is predeceased by his brothers, Philemon Walker and Clyde Walker.
A Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Bethel United Methodist Church in Pelham, NC with Pastors Donna Patterson and Jacob Dameron officiating. A visitation will be held from 12:30 PM – 1:45 PM. Interment will follow at the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Memorial Donations may be made to Authoracare Hospice, Providence Volunteer Fire Dept., and Bethel United Methodist Church.
