It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Edward Jennings McMann Jr., fondly known by many as, "Bill, Billy, or Bubba" who departed this world on July 19, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on June 7, 1942, in Danville, Virginia, Bill was a beacon of warmth and generosity, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.
Bill was the cherished son of the late William Edward Jennings McMann and Hallie McMann. He was predeceased by his wife, Jeanne A. McMann. He is survived by his loving wife, Janice McMann, who was his steadfast partner and dearest friend. Bill was the proud father of three sons: William Edward Jennings McMann III, (Jennifer), Walter Kenneth McMann, and Grover Rodgers (Annette). He is also survived by his dear sister, Barbara McMann, and his cherished grandchildren: William McMann, Cameron Rodgers, and Brandon Rodgers (MaKenzie). Nieces Whitney Daane and Olivia Daane.
A graduate of Campbell University, Bill had a distinguished career as the founder of the McMann Insurance Agency, where his dedication and integrity earned him respect and admiration. His professional achievements included being a longtime member of the Million-Dollar Round Table group, which highlighted his commitment to excellence.
Bill was a man of many passions. His love for flying was evident, whether piloting his RC airplanes or soaring through the skies in his treasured 1956 Air-Coupe. His spirited personality and love for Bar-B-Cue earned him the affectionate nickname "Bubba." As a competition cooker and later a Kansas City Bar-B-Cue Judge, Bill's culinary talents were celebrated far and wide. He played a pivotal role in bringing the Virginia State Championship to Danville with the creation of "Pigs in the Park."
His adventurous spirit led him to explore every corner of the United States and much of Canada, as he enjoyed camping and traveling with his family. He could be found shagging anywhere there was beach music. Bill's zest for life was matched only by his sense of humor and outgoing nature, and he never met a stranger.
Bill was deeply committed to his community, actively participating in numerous charitable and community groups. He was a dedicated member of the Dan River Church, where his faith guided and supported him later through his life.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of William Edward Jennings McMann Jr. will be held Saturday July 25, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at Dan River Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Authoracare Burlington Campus – 914 Chapel Hill Rd Burlington, NC 27215 in his memory.
Bill's smile, his laughter, and his boundless enthusiasm for life will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, humor, and love will endure in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
