Susan Day Dibrell of 150 Westmoreland Court died Sunday, March 5th, 2023.
Mrs. Dibrell was born July 27, 1921, in Clarksville, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Alice McKown Day and Henry Phillips Day of Clarksville, Tennessee.
She was married to Louis Nelson Dibrell, Jr. of Danville, who died July 15, 1997.
Mrs. Dibrell is survived by her son, Louis Nelson Dibrell III of Danville, Virginia and her daughters, Alice Dibrell Freeman (Isaac) of Marion, Virginia; Susan Day Dibrell Miller (Gary) of Brewton, Alabama; Louise Dibrell Theberge of Gloucester, Virginia; Henrietta Dibrell Brown (Royall) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and her daughter-in-law, Angela Carlin Dibrell of Cape Town, South Africa.
She cherished her eleven grandchildren, Clair Freeman Marshall (Allen) of Raleigh, NC, Alice Schaap Freeman (Clay) of Montreat, NC, Walker Freeman Jones (Mark) of Winston-Salem, NC, and Nelson Dibrell Freeman (Mary) of Raleigh, NC; Susan Miller Kent (Burgin), Grace Elizabeth Miller and Louis Dibrell Miller, all of Birmingham, AL; Mary Knight Theberge of Wellington, New Zealand, Susan Dibrell Theberge (James) of Corvallis, OR; Royall Randolph Brown III (Courtney) of New Bern, NC, Alice Day Brown Clark (Ken) of Winston-Salem, NC and her twenty great-grandchildren: Hutch and Nelson Marshall; Harper Day, Virginia, Isadora, Alice and Oscar Fouse; Frazier, Graham and Tucker Jones; Worth and Eliza Freeman; Burgin and Miller Kent; Olivia Roberts; Royall and Charlotte Brown; and Frank, Lucy and Louise Clark.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the friends that provided care for their mother over the last years of her life, including her caregivers Ardena Bigelow, Amy Scarce, Kate McGhee, Luevern Tarpley and Shirley Crews; her trainer Trey Blecher; Mark Sells NP, and her special gardening partner and friend Donnie Strader.
A graveside service will be held at Green Hill Cemetery on Lee Street, Danville, Virginia on April 1, 2023 1:00PM with Rev. Alice Schaap Freeman officiating.
