Roger David Alden

Roger “David” Alden, Age 78, long time resident of Guilford County and born in Danville Virginia, passed away on April 24th.

Born on December 23, 1947, he was the son of the late Roger and Doris Alden. Throughout his life, he approached the world with curiosity, and a deep appreciation for whimsy.

He worked as an enthusiastic realtor, bringing energy and dedication to his profession. Earlier in life, he earned distinction as a proud Eagle Scout, and he was named Paper Boy of the Year in 1963. He also served as an Army medic and pharmacist and spent time as a Myrtle Beach lifeguard. He received his undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University as a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity, later receiving his MBA from University of North Carolina Greensboro.

A world traveler, he had a passion for history and cultures, always eager to learn and experience something new. He was a notorious storyteller who delighted in sharing tales. He loved to be entertained, relishing a good film, listening to music, and watching nature. He had a gift for experiencing and expressing awe, and wonder, in life’s simplest pleasures and everyday moments.

He will be remembered for his vibrant spirit, his love of learning, and the joy he found in connecting with others through stories and shared experiences.

David is survived by his daughter Adrienne Alden, son in law David Cheshire, devoted partner Sandra Bryson and her children Meredith and Thad Bryson, sister Beth Alden, grandchildren Lucie & Ned Watkins, daughter in law Amy Watkins, dear cousin Ellen Joyce, and many friends near and far.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Eddie Watkins.

A graveside service will be held on May 23rd, at 1 pm at Mountain View Cemetery. The graveside service will include beach music and light refreshments. The family asks attendees to wear their favorite David Alden style beach shirts and outfits.
