Robert Wayne Ferguson

Robert Wayne Ferguson, 81, passed away after a long battle with cancer on June 27, 2025, in Danville, Virginia.

Born on December 29, 1943, Robert was a lifelong resident of Danville. He graduated from George Washington High School and continued his education at Danville Community College. His dedication to public service was evident throughout his career. He served as an officer with the Danville Police Department for seven years before transitioning to a supervisory role at Goodyear Tire-Rubber Company. Later, he became a 911 dispatcher supervisor for the City of Danville and ultimately retired from Danville Public Works.

Robert was a devoted member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church, where his faith and commitment to community were deeply rooted. He was known for his loyalty, steadfast nature, and strong devotion to family.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Faye Yeatts Ferguson; daughter, Melinda Ferguson of Danville, VA; son, Bruce Ferguson of Dewitt, Iowa; nine grandchildren Noah, Seth, Michael Jr., Amber, Cierra, Mckenna, Carson, Alexis, and Vivian; and two great-grandchildren, Luna and Aerith.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; Thelma and Bruce Dixon, who raised him; mother Dorothy Dixon Ferguson; father Carson C. Ferguson; sister Carolyn Scruggs; son Michael Ferguson Sr.; daughter Nina Ferguson; and grandson Sean Ferguson.

A funeral service will be held at Moffett Memorial Baptist Church, 1026 N Main St., Danville, VA 24540 on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 11 a.m. Graveside services will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the church and at the residence at all other times.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Moffett Memorial Baptist Church feeding program or God's Storehouse in Danville.

Robert's legacy of service and love will remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
