Richard Eugene Warren

Richard Eugene Warren, of Danville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, after a courageous 15-year battle with cancer. He was born on May 19, 1962, in Kinston, North Carolina. Richard lived a life marked by unwavering faith, boundless compassion, and a genuine love for people. His kindness, laughter, and generous spirit left an unforgettable impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Richard was the devoted husband and best friend of Robin Weadon-Warren. Together they built a life filled with love, adventure, music, and treasured memories. Whether traveling, attending concerts and entertainment venues of every genre, or simply enjoying each other's company, they embraced every opportunity to celebrate life together.

A proud graduate of Ayden-Grifton High School, Class of 1980, Richard continued his education at Pitt Community College, where he studied Architectural Design. In January 1983, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was later baptized at Freedom Baptist Church in Ayden, North Carolina. He shared his remarkable singing voice as a member of the church's gospel group and, alongside Allen Stancil and George Emory, helped build the church's new sanctuary in 1983.

For the past 18 years, Richard faithfully served as an employee of Harris Teeter. He truly loved his job and looked forward to going to work each day. His positive attitude, warm smile, and willingness to help others made him a favorite among coworkers and customers alike.

Richard had an extraordinary affinity for life. Throughout the Danville community, he was affectionately known as the unofficial "Mayor of Danville." Rarely seen without his favorite coffee mug and his signature "Mr. Mayor" hat, he never met a stranger. He had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. His infectious laughter, encouraging words, and joyful spirit brought hope and happiness to countless lives.

He loved boating, golfing, hunting, fishing, working out at the gym, and spending time outdoors. Some of his fondest memories were made vacationing with dear friends Morris Manning and Bonnie Foy, captaining his boats on Smith Mountain Lake, and welcoming family and friends aboard throughout the seasons. Above all, he cherished making lasting memories with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Richard was an outstanding mentor, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a compassionate, devoted, and selfless husband. His greatest joy came from loving others, offering encouragement, and living each day with gratitude and purpose.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Robin Weadon-Warren; his daughter, Tiffany Warren and her fiancé, David Clayton; his cherished granddaughters, Mia Gaskins and Kaira Warren; Jade Bradsher-Warren and Lexi Bradsher-Warren; his siblings, Vernon Warren and wife Wanda, Janet Hignite and husband Darrell, and Shirley Mewborn and husband Charles; brother-in-law Chris Weadon and wife Angie, as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Woodrow Warren and Carrie Elizabeth Shirley; his beloved son, Matthew Warren; and his faithful companion, Buddy Warren.

Richard also leaves behind his devoted and ever-faithful companion, Sammy Warren, whose unwavering love and companionship brought him comfort and joy.

Although Richard battled cancer for 15 years, the disease never diminished his faith, his optimism, or his love for life. He faced every challenge with courage, dignity, and grace, inspiring all who knew him. His legacy of compassion, generosity, laughter, and unwavering faith will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and community.

Richard's life was a testament to love, service, and faith. While he will be deeply missed, his memory will forever remain a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday August 8, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Townes Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 until 3:00 PM.
