Phillip Reeves Blackmon, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated community leader, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on Sunday, February 28, 1943, in Salisbury, NC, Phil was a resident of Danville, VA, where he spent the majority of his life contributing to the community he loved.
After attending Clemson University, Phil served as the President and CEO of the Danville Retail Merchants Association for over 40 years. He was a former member and past president of the Danville Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a former member and past president of the Danville Golf Club and the German Club and was active in Young Men's Club. Phil was formerly a volunteer firefighter with the Spencer, NC, Fire Department and was chairman of the Danville Airport Commission. His passions were many, but he found the greatest joy in spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid golfer and a seasoned traveler, and he delighted in cooking for others.
Phil is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Tommie Blackmon, their children Anna Baer and her husband Andy, Lisa Blackmon, and Phillip Blackmon, Jr., and his wife Laurel, his grandchildren, Kate Baer, Alex Baer, Reeves Blackmon, III, Thomas Blackmon, Lincoln Blackmon, and Anna Charles Blackmon, his sister- and brother-in-law, Brenda and Tom Watson and their family, and his loyal dog, Ty.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Reeves Blackmon and Frances Louise Morrison.
The family would like to thank the staff of Dan River DaVita Dialysis Center, who took wonderful care of Phil, and also the friends and family who have provided so much love and support over the years.
A visitation will be held at Townes Funeral Home Chapel in Danville, VA, on Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. A private burial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association, Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, or the charity of your choice.
