Othelia Anderson

Mrs. Othelia Mayhew Shelhorse Anderson of 1111 Main Street, Stratford House died at her residence on Monday, December 12, 2016.                She was born in Altavista, VA on March 7, 1925 to the late Edwin Mayhew and Golden Roby Mayhew.                Following graduation from Gretna High School, Mrs. Anderson earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.  Shortly afterwards became a teacher at Schoolfield Elementary School.                 Mrs. Anderson was an active member of West Main Baptist Church, a member of the Wednesday Club and Forest Hills Garden Club, The Daniel Group and the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History.                On July 12, 1947 she married William Henry Shelhorse who died December 10, 1996.  She later married James Russell Anderson on September 28, 2002 who is deceased.                She is survived by two children; son, Dale Shelhorse of Columbia, SC and a daughter, Margaret Shelhorse Massie of Annandale, VA, grandchildren; Sean Austin of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Charles Massie, Jr., Laura Massie and Daniel Massie all of Annandale, VA.  Mrs. Anderson is also survived by her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Regen of Nashville, TN and a number of nieces and nephews.                Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. from West Main Baptist Church with the Reverend Bruce Wilson officiating.  Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 from 7 to 8:30 P.M.                The family has asked in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to West Main Baptist Church, 450 West Main Street, Danville, VA  24541 or to a charity of your choice.                Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Anderson family.
