Nancy Edwards Batterman

Mrs. Nancy Lou Edwards Batterman, age 86, of 1111 Main Street, died Saturday, October. 3, 2026 at Stratford House after a three-month decline in health. Mrs. Batterman was born on January 23, 1940, a daughter of the late Daisy Elizabeth Oakes Edwards and Billie W. Edwards. She was married to Brantley Keen Batterman on November 13, 1963, who predeceased her. She was an active member of Fairview Church and the Virginia Emmaus community. She was a graduate of George Washington High School and received a bachelors degree from Westmoreland College (now University of Richmond). Mrs. Batterman taught at Brosville and Tunstall High Schools and continued this passion by teaching Sunday School classes.

She is survived by her son Frederick Christian August Batterman II and his wife Lori Ann Furches Batterman, daughter Elizabeth Keen Batterman Scarce and her husband Michael Lee Scarce, granddaughters Casey Lee Scarce, Tristan Keen Scarce, and Abby Nicole Scarce, and grandson Matthew Cole Scarce.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 7 from Fairview Church with the Reverend Ryan Beavers officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the church before the service at 1:00 p.m. and at other times at her daughter’s home.
