Mike Kelsey Hendrickson of Danville Virginia passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 after a brief illness. He was born in Roane County, Tennessee to the late Ethel Kelsey and Mike Houston Hendrickson. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Joyce Hendrickson as well as sisters Sally Cope and Nancy Vandergriff. He is survived by his children Mike Hendrickson, Jr. (Lori) of Raleigh, NC, Steven Hendrickson (Terri) of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren Kelsey Butler (Bill), Kristin Hendrickson, and Cameron Johnson (Christopher) all of Charlotte, NC and Isabella Hendrickson of Raleigh, NC; great grandchildren Betsy and Louis Butler ; siblings Jerry Hendrickson (Frankie) of Macon GA and Trudy Swicegood (Dan) of Nashville TN; and many dear nieces and nephews.
After high school Mike enlisted and served in the US Army in Enterprise Alabama where he met and married Joyce. Upon graduation from the University of Tennessee, Mike began a 30 year career with Corning Glass. He started as a shift foreman and eventually rose to the position of Vice President in charge of special projects. He was instrumental in the production of LCD glass now ubiquitous in computer monitors and televisions. His career moved the family to many places before settling and eventually retiring in Danville VA.
Mike was an active member of First Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Usher, and on numerous Church committees. He was a leader in the community serving on the Boards of Averette College, Danville Regional Hospital, The Free Clinic of Danville and Danville Golf Club among others. He was an avid golfer and fan of all University of Tennessee sports.
His greatest legacy is his love for his family to whom he was devoted. He was a loving husband, brother, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed. Family was always his highest priority, and they hold dear memories many of travels, holidays, and family milestones for which he was always present.
A visitation will be held Friday, February 6 from 1:00-2:00 at First Baptist Church followed by a service at 2:00 with Reverend Ryan Busby officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church 871 Main Street Danville, VA 24541 or a charity of your choice. Townes Funeral Home is serving the Hendrickson family.
