Michael Van Haynes, 72, died at his home in Danville, Virginia, on April 7, 2026. He was born on April 18, 1953, in Danville to Horace Vance Haynes and Doris Hutcherson Haynes, who predeceased him.
Mike was a 1971 graduate of George Washington High School and a 1975 graduate of Danville Community College. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having volunteered and served during the Vietnam War era from 1971 to 1973. He loved his country and closely followed government and politics throughout his life.
With an amiable personality, Mike was a born salesman. During his career, he worked in sales of various kinds, including insurance, real estate, and luxury foreign cars. He was an innovator with online marketing, creating a business and selling golf-related items when the internet was in its infancy.
Mike was an accomplished, self-taught painter. He loved playing and watching golf, fishing, collecting coins, and had various other hobbies and interests.
He is survived by his cherished wife, Paula Reynolds Haynes, with whom he recently celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. He is also survived by his brother, Stan Haynes, and wife Elizabeth, as well as his nephew Nathaniel Haynes, wife Kathleen, and their daughter Anna.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Townes Funeral Home in Danville, followed immediately by a graveside service at Mountain View Cemetery officiated by Pastor Sean Timmons.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial remembrances be made to the Danville Area Humane Society, the Danville Life Saving Crew, or to a charity of choice.
