Mrs. Marguerite Parker Allen (Rita) of Danville, VA passed away on January 24, 2025, after a rapid decline in health. She was married to John William Allen from 1952 until his death in 2019.
Mrs. Allen was born in Danville, VA on February 6, 1932. She was the daughter of Etta Pearl Parks Parker and Edwin Arthur Parker. She was reared as a foster child from the age of 5 by Roskie and Mae Adams of Riceville, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, foster parents, brother, Leroy Sherwood Parker and her foster siblings, Carl Adams, Wilma Adams, Elwood Adams, Noel Adams, Johnny Adams, and Louise Greenwood.
She is survived by her 3 daughters, Frances Gail Allen (Eddie) of Danville, Susan Elizabeth Allen Moore (Hunter) of Clayton, and Jane Parker Allen Furrow (Ronnie) of Danville. She is also survived by her grandchildren Christina Elizabeth Moore (C.J) of Lake Wylie, SC and John Landon Pretty (Anna) of Lynchburg, VA as well as her great grandson Corbin Salas and her beloved dog Winnie.
Mrs. Allen graduated from Spring Garden High School in 1950 and D.T.I. (D.C.C.) in 1951 with a degree in Secretarial Science. She was employed by the City of Danville with the Health Department and then Danville City Schools for over 30 years.
She was a member of North Main Baptist Church and the Temple Terrace Women's Club. She enjoyed volunteering at Roman Eagle Nursing Home, spending time with family and friends, the Danville Greenway Trail, taking care of her flowers, eating out, feeding the wild birds and squirrels, and taking care of her dachshund, Winnie. She loved to play "Rook" and "Rummikub", and was quite good at both.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Townes Funeral Home in Danville. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 prior to the funeral services which will follow at 2:00 at the Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at other times at the home of her daughter, Jane Allen Furrow.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations can be made to the Activities Department at Roman Eagle Nursing Home, 2526 N Main St, Danville, VA, 24540.
