Margaret Barksdale

April 17, 1924 — November 5, 2016

Margaret Lee Foley Barksdale, 92, of League City, Texas, formerly of Danville, VA, passed away on May 11, 2016. She was born on April 17, 1924, and was the youngest child of Willie Green Foley and Zella Gosney Foley. She was predeceased by her parents, as well as by her siblings, Harry Foley, Cora Richardson and Viola Cocoros.   Margaret was also predeceased by her husband, Gordon Gilbert Barksdale, who died in 1981. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Barksdale Atkinson, and her husband, Gary, of Roanoke, VA; and her son Gordon Gilbert Barksdale, Jr. and his wife, Kim, of Dickinson, Texas. Survivors also include two grandchildren, Hunter Barksdale Atkinson of Rockville, MD, and Ashley Elizabeth Atkinson of Los Angeles, CA; and two step-grandsons, Nathan and Clay Osterman of Texas.  She was blessed with two great-grandsons, Colin and Elliot Atkinson. She also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.   Margaret spent most of her life in Danville working for various local businesses. She retired from Woodall Chevrolet as office manager. Ten years later, she moved to Texas, where she enjoyed life with new friends and an extended family.   A memorial service will be held at Townes Funeral Home on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. An interment will follow at the Bryant Family Cemetery in Spring Garden, VA. Friends and family may call prior to the service.   Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Barksdale family.
