Linda Gail Fuquay Taylor

Linda Gail Fuquay Taylor, 83, of Danville, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on September 9, 2026.

Born on August 9, 1943, in Danville, Linda was the daughter of the late David E. Fuquay and Virginia E. Fuquay. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Daniel Leroy Taylor; her son, Richard Lewis Taylor; and her granddaughter, Virginia Grayson Crutchfield.

Linda is survived by her daughter, Lisa Rae Taylor Aikins (Davis) of Danville, Virginia; her son, Lee Taylor (Barbara) of Wilmington, North Carolina; and her daughter, Deborah Vernon of Burlington, North Carolina. She is also survived by her six grandsons, Daniel Carter Vernon, Taylor Vernon, Connor Crutchfield, Colin Crutchfield, Michael Taylor, and Holden Taylor (Farren); and her four great-grandchildren, Wylder Taylor, Haven Taylor, Ben Vernon, and Lucas Vernon, all of whom were part of the family she loved so dearly.

Linda attended George Washington High School and Stratford College. She began her working life as a laboratory technician at Danville Memorial Hospital, now Sovah Health. She later spent the majority of her career alongside her husband, Dan, helping to operate Taylor’s Hardware Store on Main Street in Danville. Together, they built a successful and well-known local business while raising their four children. Dan and Linda retired from the hardware store in 2000.

Linda loved life, but most of all, she loved people. Classy and impeccably dressed, she had a wonderful sense of style and an unmistakable presence. She was a true social butterfly who treasured her many friendships and genuinely enjoyed being surrounded by people. Linda loved to talk, and anyone who knew her knew that the telephone was one of her favorite ways to stay connected. She could happily spend hours on the phone talking, laughing, catching up, and sharing stories with friends and family. Those conversations and friendships brought her tremendous joy throughout her life.

Linda was also an accomplished and fiercely competitive golfer and tennis player and loved water skiing. She had a lifelong appreciation for beauty, particularly flowers and gardens. She loved gardening and flower arranging and shared those interests as an active member of the Gabriella Garden Club. She was also an active member of The Wednesday Club.

At the center of Linda’s life was her marriage to Dan. Married in 1966, they shared 57 years together before his death in 2023. They raised a family, built a business, and created a lifetime of memories side by side. They were truly inseparable, and to their family and friends, it was almost impossible to think of one without the other.

In the last year and a half of her life, Linda found a very special companion in her little dog, Stella. Stella brought her tremendous joy, comfort, and companionship, and Linda absolutely adored her. The little dog quickly became an important part of Linda’s everyday life and held a very special place in her heart.

Those who knew Linda will remember her elegance, her warmth, her love of conversation and friendship, and the energy she brought into a room. She loved her family deeply, cherished her friends, and lived a life filled with people and activities she enjoyed.

The family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to Commonwealth Hospice for the compassionate care given to Linda, with special thanks to her nurse, Lynn Maddox, and to her devoted caregiver, Agnes Green, whose kindness and care meant so much to Linda and her family.

A funeral service celebrating Linda’s life will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at West Main Baptist Church in Danville, Virginia, with Drew Herring officiating.

Prior to the service, Dan and Linda will be laid to rest together in a private ceremony with family. After 57 years of marriage and a lifetime spent side by side, it seems only fitting that they will now rest together—inseparable once again.

Immediately following the funeral service, family and friends are invited to the home of Lisa and Davis Aikins, 1500 Ferry Road, to share memories, stories, and friendship as they celebrate Linda’s life.
