Lillard Oscar Shelton, 92, passed away at home on Friday April 25, 2025.
He was born in Pittsylvania County, VA, on February 24, 1933, to the late Dallas Terry Shelton and Mattie Davis Shelton.
He was preceded in death by four brothers Henry Shelton, Howard Shelton, William Shelton and Willard Shelton; and six sisters, Sandra Payne, Helen Moser, Georgia Rigney Lyde Shelton, Bernice Marshall, and Alice Douglas.
Lillard is survived by his wife of 68 years Christine of the home. Lillard is also survived by his son Ricky K. Shelton (Lisa); grandchildren Jacob Shelton, Nathan Shelton (Melinda), CJ Lewis (Ashley), Nina Martin (Eric) and seven great grandchildren.
Lillard was raised on the farm with 10 siblings including his identical twin Willard and a beloved cousin Daryl.
He was a devoted member of Floral Hills United Methodist Church.
His working career was with textiles where he worked for Dan River Mills and Copeland Fabrics and was also a supervisor at both facilities.
He enjoyed gardening and watching western movies. His three passions were antique cars, cruise ins, and car shows, where he made lifelong friendships. He and Christine traveled many times to Hershey, PA, for the annual AACA car show where he was given senior awards for his cars and many preservation awards.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday April 30, 2025, 1:00pm at Townes Funeral Home with Daryl Joyce officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday April 29, 2025 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Ricky Shelton's residence, 952 Popular Trace. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service from 12:00 to 1:00pm. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
