Born in Danville, Virginia, Julia Michelle Spraggins-Byrd was the beloved daughter of the late Harvey and Annie Spraggins. She was preceded in death by her brother Anthony R. Spraggins.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband Dr. William Byrd, LPC, of Capitol Heights MD, sisters Sonia Spraggins Williams (Harold), and Catina Jones of Danville, VA. Julia’s joy extended deeply into the lives of her nieces, Ariel Spraggins of Richmond, VA, and Kayle Williams, Charlotte, NC, and nephews Kelby Williams, Kymric Williams (Natalie), and Sheldon Stewart of Danville VA. She is also remembered fondly by a host of other relatives and friends.
Julia professed hope in Christ at an early age and joined The Bulah Baptist Church in Danville, Virginia. She later united with The First Baptist Church of Highland Park Landover, MD where she served faithfully on the Welcome and Greeters Ministry till her death.
Julia attended Danville Public Schools and is a proud alumna of Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC and Southeastern University in Washington, DC.
Julia was a multifaceted professional whose life blended education, creativity, service, and style. With over 40 years of experience, she was a certified image and fashion consultant, educator, and “wraptician,” lovingly known as “Dr. Wrap.”
Julia served as Vice President of Media Relations at Urbanomics Consulting Group and as a Senior Associate with GMMB in Washington DC.
In the summer of 2016, she founded and started “It’s A Wrap Project – Her legacy of Healing” as a result of her journey with Alopecia Areata – a journey that transformed pain into purpose and self-acceptance into innovation. Through It’s A Wrap Project, Julia gave women permission to redefine beauty, reclaim their confidence, and walk boldly in self-love.
