Mr. John H. Zechman, Jr. of 205 Salisbury Circle passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at home at the age of 90. He was born in Lebanon, PA on April 11, 1928 to the late J. Howard Zechman and Stella Hoke Zechman. At the age of seven his parents moved to McMinnville, TN. John was a graduate of Central High School in McMinnville, TN in 1946 with honors. He received his B.S. degree in Business Administration from Bowling Green College in 1957. He received his Master from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg. John served in the U. S. Army and spent 10 months in South Korea. He moved to Danville in 1952 and worked at Stratford College four years as Business Manager; he held similar positions at Pepsi Cola Bottling Company of Danville for six years. He retired from Danville Community College after 29 years as Dean of Financial and Business Administration Services. October 25, 2011 John was honored The John Zechman, Jr. Facilities Support Center Bldg. at Danville Community College. John received Key Man Award from the Danville Jaycess in 1966. He was awarded Boss of the Year in 1981 by Business Women’s Club sent in by one of his employees. John was a member of Roman Eagle Lodge #122 and awarded 50 year pin in 2016. He served on Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center Board for 40 years until his health failed. He served on Danville Community College Foundation Board for many years. John was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church for 66 years and very active until health failed him. He served many times on Church Council, Usher Chairman, Property Committee and any where needed. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Neal Zechman for 59 years. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 2 P.M. from Ascension Lutheran Church with Reverend Meredith Williams and Reverend Jeffrey Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. Visitation will be held one hour before the service and at other times will be at the residence at 205 Salisbury Circle.
