Dr. Jean Hatten, 76, passed away on September 8, 2025. He was born September 12, 1948 in Savannah GA, the son of Vernettte P. and Jean M. Hatten. He is survived by his wife Dr. Anna D. Hatten, his brother Micheal Hatten (Deborah), his sister Susan Olliff (Bruce), his nephews Gregory Olliff (Katie), and Michael Hatten (Lauren), and his niece Courtney Olliff.
Jean earned his baccalaureate degree from Mercer University and his PHD in experimental psychology from UNCG. He served as a professor of psychology at Averett University in Danville VA for 34 years . He devoted his life to involving undergraduate psychology majors in original psychological research. As the primary investigator for two NSF grants to the Averett psychology department, he not only substantially improved the psychology lab, he was able to use the purchases for those grants to give Averett University its first presence on the internet and build Averett’s first website.
He loved to ski and to take transatlantic cruises.
