James Algie Buckner, Jr.

James "Buddy" Algie Buckner Jr., a resident of Providence, NC, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 28th, 2025, at the age of 83.

Born on Wednesday, August 26th, 1942, in Halifax County, VA, James was the beloved son of the late James Algie Buckner Sr. and Merle Ann Buckner. James honorably served his country in the United States Army. After his military service, he became the owner and operator of Town and Country Air Conditioning, where he worked diligently until his retirement. In his personal life, James had a passion for gardening, hunting, and fishing. He has a creative knack for building things, and he was always eager to lend a hand to anyone in need.

In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Marilyn Carroll Buckner, and his sister, Betty Williamson.

He is survived by his children, James A. Buckner, III (Marlinda) and Michelle B. Underwood (Patrick); five grandchildren, Raymond Buckner (Lauren), Anthony Buckner (Amber), Allison Sparks, Donald Knaak, and Christina Busick (Dean); thirteen great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Watkins.

Funeral services will be held at Providence Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025, at 2:00 pm with Pastor Mitch Cifers officiating. A visitation will take place prior to the service at the same location from 12:30 pm to 1:45 pm. Interment will follow at the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
