George Melvin Blair

George Melvin Blair, age 90, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026, in Climax, VA. Born on December 9, 1935, to the late George William Blair and Elsie Shelhorse Blair, he passed away on the farm he loved. He worked with tobacco in his early years of farming but later focused on his cattle. He also worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation for 37 years and retired as a superintendent. He served his country in the United States Army for four years.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend for over 40 years, Janet Strader Blair. He is also survived by 4 children, Patti Blair Schwemer, Jeffrey Blair (Cindy), Jerry Pace (Angel), Jonathan Pace (Angie); 8 grandchildren, Adam Blair (Caitlyn), Jessica Phelps (John), Amanda Hamilton (Brook), Ashley Holley (Jason), Cody Pace (Maddi), Cheyenne Pace, Kasey McGoldrick (Kevin), Daniel Gerrells, Bella Brown; 10 great grandchildren, Lena Phelps, Aiden Phelps, Renley Hamilton, Gracie Holley, Ellie Holley, Cooper Pace, Colton McGoldrick, Leo McGoldrick, Eden McGoldrick, Fallon Gerrells, Dylan Blair; sister, Donna Blair Gwin (Bob).

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son-in-law, David Schwemer, and niece, Kristin Gwin Fagan.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 11:00 AM, at Greenpond Baptist Church in Chatham, VA, with interment following at the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on the same day, 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the church.
