Ely Pollok Foster

May 28, 1946 — April 22, 2026

Esther Ely Pollok Foster, 79, of 147 Waterford Court, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care. Born May 28, 1946, in Danville, Virginia, she grew up in Whitmell, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late George Harper Pollok, Sr. and Esther Ely Pollok. She was married to Jerry Alton Foster who survives her.

She graduated from Whitmell Farm Life School in 1964 and from Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia in 1968. She taught for one year at Brosville Elementary School, Pittsylvania County, VA. She also taught for three years at West Springfield Elementary School, Fairfax, VA and two years at South Salem Elementary School, Roanoke County, VA. She and her family moved back to Danville in 1974.

As a long-time active member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, she served on the Administrative Board and was a Sunday School teacher. She was also very active in the Children’s House program at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church serving on their board and keeping the books for years. She loved flowers and growing flowers in her back yard flower gardens. She was a member of The Wednesday Club and The Gabriella Garden Club.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son-in-law, Brian Scott James.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Christine Foster Robertson and son-in-law, Neil Thomas Robertson of Durham, NC; Lauren Foster James of Redington Shores, FL; and Amanda Rae Foster of Danville, VA; and one brother George Harper Pollok, Jr. and wife Kathy Smith Pollok of Union Hall, VA.

We would like to thank her caregivers Leuvern Tarpley and Joyce Berger for their faithful services over the last two years.

A graveside service will be held on Monday April 27, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Danville Memorial Gardens with Reverend Penny Rasnake officiating. The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home prior to the service from 12:00 – 1:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mount Vernon United Methodist Church and Whitmell United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
