Emma Emerson Adkins of 242 Arch Cook Road, Pelham, NC went to be with her Lord on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC. She had been in declining health for several years. Mrs. Adkins was born in Pittsylvania County, VA to the late James Aubrey Emerson and Pearl Mitchell Emerson. Besides her parents she was predeceased by a son Thomas Jack Hampton, Jr. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend to all. She loved traveling (foreign and domestic) visiting 49 states, entertaining, cooking, reading and spending time with family and friends. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, and she loved the snow. Emma was very outgoing and never met a stranger. She was generous to a fault and very giving to everyone. She was a charter member of Faith Memorial Baptist Church. Emma was active in the church choir, women’s fellowship, church secretary, bowling league and Red Hat Society. She worked at Corning Glass Works and retired from Danville Community College and was a homemaker. She leaves behind her husband of the home; George Samuel Adkins, son, Frank James Hampton and his wife Cindy of Pelham, NC and her daughter, Stormy Adkins Dove and her husband Robert of Burlington, NC, siblings; Jewell Abbott, Faye Harbrant, Linda Johnson and her husband Reverend Steve Johnson, Glenda Page, Patricia Anne Nash and her husband Michael and J. D. Emerson and his wife Susan. Also surviving are six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. from Faith Memorial Baptist Church with the Reverend Daniel Lackey, Reverend Seth Lackey, Reverend Austin Merricks and Reverend Steve Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Faith Memorial Baptist Church on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 from 7 to 8:30 P.M. and at other times will be at the residence, 242 Arch Cook Road, Pelham, NC 27311. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Adkins family.
