Elsie Carr Slayton, a vibrant member of Danville's business and social networks, died on January 12, 2016, in her home. She owned and operated several building supply and plumbing businesses, including Saunder's Building Supply, CJS, Westover Plumbing, and was a partner in Plumbing and Mill Supply. She was born in Keeling, Va. on August 23, 1921 to the late Rosa and Paul Carr, and was the wife of the late Willard Hodnett Slayton. Her three children are the late Thomas C. Slayton, and Anne S. Wood of Danville and Elizabeth S. Wilcox of Ocala, Florida. She is also survived by one sister, Hallie Searcy, five grandchildren, Elizabeth and Berkley Furgerson, Lauren Spivey, Heather and Thomas Carr Slayton, Jr., and one great grandchild, Thomas Nash Spivey. A memorial service will be held at Mount Vernon Methodist Church at 1 pm on Saturday, Jan. 16. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests charitable contributions to Mount Vernon Methodist Church, the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History, Christ Community Church of Penhook, Va., or a charity of your choosing.
