Elizabeth Powell Sparks

Elizabeth Ann Powell Sparks, a resident of Ringgold, VA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 13th, 2025, at the age of 88.

Elizabeth was born on Friday, July 16th, 1937, a daughter of the late Robert Guy Powell and Mary Elizabeth Gatewood Powell. A dedicated homemaker, Elizabeth found joy in spending time with her family, taking care of children, and tending to her garden. Elizabeth supported her husband's military career with the Air Force taking them many places around the world. She enjoyed teaching Children's Sunday School in multiple churches and was always involved with the Women's Missionary Union (WMU). She was an active member of Ringgold Baptist Church and an avid supporter of the Dan River Ruritan Club.

In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her devoted husband, David Edward Sparks, who passed on September 25, 2021, and her grandson, Joseph Kyle Arriola.

She is survived by her children, Nancy Sparks Adams and James Sparks (Aliehya), her grandchildren, Dan Adams (Sarah), Mary Mills (Chris), Sarah Combs (Noah), David Sparks II (Cami), and John Sparks, her great-grandchildren, Bryson Mills, Camden Mills, Olive Combs, Mason Buchman, and one on the way. She also had many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at Ringgold Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 19th, 2025, at 1:00 pm with Pastor Duane Caldwell officiating. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at the same location on Tuesday, November 18th, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Ringgold Volunteer Fire & Rescue or Ringgold Baptist Church.
