Dr. Rose Satterfield

d. Oct 21, 2026

Dr. Rose Satterfield, a beloved mother, mother in law, grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday 21 October 2026.

Rose lived a big, interesting life, guided by an independent spirit, an inquisitive mind, and a wonderful sense of adventure.

With deep family roots in the South, Rose grew up in suburban New Jersey, just outside New York City, after her parents moved north following World War II. Her younger siblings, Cynthia and Selden, joined the family there. That willingness to venture beyond the familiar would become a hallmark of Rose’s own life.

In the early 1970s, she entered dental school at a time when women were still a rarity in the profession. She loved being a dentist and took great pride in her work. Later, she shared her knowledge and experience as an educator at Danville Community College, where her intelligence, dedication, and unmistakable humor made her a valued colleague.

Rose was a woman of strong convictions, deep faith, and a mind very much her own. She loved books, Broadway musicals, travel, and the company of family and dear friends. Some of her closest friendships spanned a lifetime, and she treasured the many adventures, traditions, and memories they shared.

Her faith was an important part of her life, and she found great comfort and friendship at Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Providence, North Carolina. With generations of family history woven into its story, the little country church held a special place in her heart.

More recently, she became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served as registrar.

Of all the roles Rose embraced, perhaps none brought her greater happiness than being a grandmother. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life, and the love and pride she felt for them knew no bounds.

Rose was intelligent, independent, wonderfully opinionated, and blessed with a sense of humor that could turn the smallest absurdity into helpless laughter. She could be formidable, certainly, but she was also playful, adventurous, and deeply devoted to those she loved.

To some, she was Dr. Satterfield. To others, Rose. A colleague, teacher, sister, cousin, friend, mother, mother in law, and grandmother. Each knew a different part of her, and together those relationships tell the story of a woman whose presence will not easily be forgotten.

She leaves behind not only a lifetime of memories, but a little bit of herself in everyone who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

Rose is survived by her children, Virginia “Ginger” Keller and Will Keller and his wife, Margret; her beloved grandchildren, Dmitri, Tristan and his partner Katharina, Solveig and her husband, Jacob, and Selma; her sister, Cynthia Satterfield; her brother, Louis Selden Satterfield; and many cherished relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday November 7, 2026 1:00 PM at Shady Grove United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 PM at the church prior to the service. Inurnment will follow the service at Shady Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Following the services, family and close friends are invited to gather for a time of fellowship and sharing memories.
