Dorothy Eanes Carter, 85, formerly of the Ferry Road Community, passed away Tuesday morning, November 4, 2025, with her daughters by her side.
Dorothy was born on May 25, 1940, in Pittsylvania County, to the late Pricie Willis Eanes and Vincent M. Eanes. She married the late Harold W. Carter on August 1, 1958. During their years together, they especially enjoyed camping and spending time with family and friends.
A charter member of Ferry Road Friends Church, Dorothy remained an active and devoted member until her death. She worked professionally with Dan River Mills, the Pittsylvania County Commissioner of the Revenue, and later retired from the Danville DMV.
Dorothy's greatest joy was being a mother, Nana, and Great-Nana. She loved sewing, baking, and cooking for her family, and she took great pride in growing flowers and vegetables in her garden.
She is survived by her daughters, Kim Thompson (Bryon), Brenda Scearce (Danny Barber), and Tera Scearce (Jeff); her grandchildren, Kelly Thompson, Blake Thompson (Amanda), Sarah Scearce (Wes Durham), Rebecca Pass (Tyler), Ben and Molly Scearce, and Marjorie Jones; and a special niece, Cindy Walker. She was the proud Great-Nana to Henry Thompson and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his
baby sister, due November 12.
She is also survived by her special friends of 57 years, Raymond and Iva Newman.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her brother, Garnett Eanes, and her sister, Sandra Eanes Lee.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Danville Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to God's Pit Crew or the charity of your choice.
