Darra “Tony” Neander Anthony, 86, passed away on August 4, 2025.

Tony was born on May 25, 1939, to the late Zora Donahue and Ernest Anthony.

On April 4, 1992, Tony married Gayle Powell, and they shared 33 blissful years together.

He proudly served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1965 as a member of the 10th Special Forces Group. After his military service, Tony worked as a branch manager for several local banks and later was appointed as a Virginia Magistrate in the 22nd Judicial Circuit. During Tony’s service as a Magistrate, he developed lasting friendships with members of the Danville Police Department, Sheriff’s Department, Judges and staff.

Tony is survived by his wife, Gayle Powell Anthony, many loving friends, and his beloved cat, Sophie.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Townes Memorial Chapel.
