Carolyn Shelhorse

June 4, 1945 — December 28, 2018

Carolyn Lucille Shelhorse, 73, passed away Friday afternoon, December 28, 2018 in Stratford House, Danville.      She was born on April 6, 1945, in Culpeper, Va. a daughter of the late Carroll H. Shelhorse and Lucille Taylor Shelhorse.      Carolyn was a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville where she majored in history and philosophy.  She received a Master’s degree in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.      She served as Children’s Librarian at the Danville Public Library for 30 years.  She was a faithful member of Ascension Lutheran Church.      Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and two nephews.  She is survived by her sister, Sarah S. Miller and her husband, Hugh; several cousins and a number of dear friends.      Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 2 pm from Ascension Lutheran Church with the Reverend Meredith Williams officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be on Monday at 2pm in Fairview Cemetery in Culpeper, Va. with her brother-in-law, the Reverend Hugh Miller officiating.     The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church, 314 West Main Street, Danville, VA 24541 or to Danville Cancer Association, 223 Riverview Drive, Suite J, Danville, VA 24541.
