Barbara Fulton Mott December 20, 1922-June 15, 2025 Barbara Fulton Mott, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and lifelong educator, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025. Born in Montclair, New Jersey, Barbara’s life was a remarkable testament to resilience, grace, and unwavering faith.
Born December 20, 1922, the third of four children, Barbara grew up during the Great Depression—an experience that shaped her strength and compassion. At just 19, she married Warren Crigler Fulton, SGT 1st Class in the U.S. Army, in the midst of World War II. Together, they built a life together for nearly 50 years centered on family, faith, and service.
Barbara graduated from Averett University in Danville, Virginia, and began her calling in education. She lived and raised her family in Danville, where she served as a fearless kindergarten teacher at The First Presbyterian Church of Danville for over 45 years. Her classroom became a cherished place of learning and love for generations of children.
She was active in her church community and always found time to share the love of Jesus. Her faith was the quiet, steady foundation of her life, and her kindness reflected Christ’s love in all she did.
Gifted and endlessly curious, Barbara taught herself to speak German, traveled the world, and painted with natural artistic talent. She faced adversity with remarkable strength, outliving pulmonary fibrosis. She credited the compassionate care of Duke University’s doctors for her extended years and often praised them for their dedication and support.
Barbara is survived by her three children: Warren Crigler (Carol Fulton), Truxton King (Lisa Fulton), and Jean Graham (Tom Bivins); six grandchildren: Truxton King, Eliza Fulton (Robert Thorton), Bright Fulton (Christine Fulton), Faith Fulton ( Chris King), Erin Jean Graham (James Keel), Kristen Elizabeth Bivins (Ryan Mabry); and an entourage of great-grandchildren, great-nieces, and great-nephews who carry forward her legacy of love and faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Fulton, her parents, Truxton and Phyllis Shaw Pratt, as well as her siblings, Jeannie Grant, Phyllis Barach, and Truxton Pratt.
Barbara lived a life of grace, grit, and deep faith. Her love lives on in every life she touched, and her legacy will continue to inspire all who had the blessing to know her. Viewing and service will take place on Monday, June 30, 2025 at 1:00pm at Townes Funeral Home, Danville, Virginia. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery.
