Barbara Harris

On Sunday morning, December 9, 2012, Mom left this earth to be with our Heavenly Father in Paradise. She was born September 15, 1943 in Pittsylvania County to Gordon Perkins and Doris Gusler Gauldin, both deceased. She is survived by her two daughters, Allen Slaughter and her husband, Thom of Las Vegas, NV and Victoria Chumley and her husband, Forrest of Dry Fork, VA (with whom she resided). She is also survived by one son, Jasper Harris, III of Richmond, VA and a half-sister, Wanda Gauldin of Danville, VA. She is also survived by her ex-husband and father to her children, Jasper Harris, Jr. of Cascade, VA. She also has three granddaughters: Amanda' Kitty, and Arielle and three grandsons: Richard, Bobby Lee, and Jonathan who will miss her dearly. She is predeceased by her "baby" boy, Michael Christopher, of Danville, VA, who is waiting for her with open arms. She is a graduate of Averett University with a bachelor's degree in education. She taught LD/ED classes for several years, Sutherlin Academy, and at Bartlett-Yancey High. She continued to teach until a continuing decline in health over the years. She was of the Christian Faith and her heart belonged to her home and family. The family will have visitation/ memorial at the home of Tim and Jody Wilkerson, close family friends, from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm on Friday, December 14, 2012, at 164 New Walters Mill Rd. The family will be at their residence at other times. A private graveside service is planned for Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm at the family cemetery in Sutherlin.
