Arlyne Burton McDowell

Arlyne Burton McDowell passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 8th, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on Monday, November 6th, 1933, in Danville, VA, Arlyne lived a life full of service, dedication, and love.

Arlyne's passion for community service was evident through her involvement in numerous organizations. She served as the past president of the board of directors for the Danville Life Saving Crew, past president of the Luncheon Pilot Club, and past president of the Hospital Auxiliary at Danville Regional Medical Center, where she also volunteered in one-day surgery. Additionally, she was a past president of the Virginia Piedmont Chapter of the American Businesswomen's Association. Arlyne was a devoted member of West Main Baptist Church, where she shared her musical talents as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and accompanist.

Arlyne was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lee McDowell and Ethel Burton McDowell, as well as, her loyal pets, Sydney, Pumpkin, and Al E.Cat. Though she did not have any biological siblings, Arlyne was blessed with friendships that were as close as family. She is survived by her cousins, Evangeline N. Avery, Sue B. Glidewell, Mary-Whitt Jones, and Eddie H. Gregory.

A memorial service to celebrate Arlyne's life will be held at West Main Baptist Church, Danville, VA, on Wednesday, April 15th, 2026, at 11:00 am, officiated by Pastors Drew Herring and Jennifer Clatterbuck.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew or the West Main Baptist Church Mission Offering, organizations close to Arlyne's heart.
